Manufacturers detune engines on purpose. They build one engine and sell it across markets with different fuel quality, different emissions rules and different service intervals, so the map that leaves the factory is a compromise.
A Stage 1 remap recovers the margin that compromise leaves behind. We read your standard file, write a calibration for your engine, and put it back. Nothing is bolted on and nothing is removed.
What you actually gain
The headline is power, but most drivers notice the torque first. Peak pull arrives earlier and holds longer, so the car pulls in a higher gear and you change gear less often.
On a turbocharged engine, expect 20 to 30 per cent more power and torque. Naturally aspirated engines gain much less. Towing, motorway overtakes and loaded vans are where the difference is most obvious.

Stage 1 or Stage 2?
Stage 1 is software on a standard car. Stage 2 needs supporting hardware first, usually a freer-flowing exhaust or downpipe and often an uprated intercooler, and only then can the software push further.
For most drivers Stage 1 is the sensible choice: the large majority of the gain, none of the parts bill, and factory reliability intact. If your car is already modified, say so when you enquire and we will tell you honestly which one fits.

A Stage 1 remap is a recalibration of your engine's standard ECU software. Nothing is added to the car and nothing is replaced. We adjust fuelling, boost pressure and ignition timing within the tolerances the manufacturer already built in, which is where the headroom comes from.

No. Stage 1 is software only, which is what separates it from Stage 2. If your vehicle already has an upgraded exhaust, intercooler or intake, tell us and we will talk you through whether Stage 2 makes more sense.
Yes, when it is done properly. We health-check the vehicle first and we will not tune a car that is showing underlying faults. Every calibration stays inside the mechanical limits of the engine and gearbox.
Driven the same way, most people see economy improve, because the engine makes its torque more efficiently. Drive it harder and you will use more fuel. Both are true, and we would rather say so.
At any time. We keep your original file for as long as you own the car, so it can go back to standard for a service, a warranty claim or a sale.
Yes, you should declare any modification. Many insurers add little or nothing for a Stage 1 remap. We are happy to explain exactly what has been changed so you can tell them accurately.
